Prosthetic foot

Prosthetic foot

This project was carried out as part of a master's thesis in Biomedical Engineering (ISEL). The 3D model was perfected and adapted to Additive Manufacturing from the Master's student's model. This prosthesis was tested on an amputee patient weighing 90 kilos and exceeded our expectations in terms of mechanical strength.

The part was printed in a lateral position so that the reinforcement planes were horizontal. The carbon fibre reinforcement was defined as "concentric fibre", with 40 stripes, each 3 layers thick (0.125 mm x 3) and two complete turns around the contour of the model. In addition to the reinforcement strips, two "isotropic fibre" reinforcements were defined, one at the base of the part and the other at the top, 4 layers thick. The stacking sequence was [0º/45º/90º/-45º], with two turns of fibre on the contour.
